Derek Stearn

Won by 4 wickets

Somewhat belatedly here is the match report to cover the entertaining game with our 'old foes' The Covenant CC who regularly come to us and enjoy their games against us, plus love our facilities and ground.
If the author recalls correctly it was a fine sunny warm day, & upon the toss which was won by our visitors who decided to bat, we readily took to the field @ 1.30pm.
A wicket in the 1st over for Ant Quinn 5 - 2 - 12 - 1 with Matt Daniels taking a fine catch. Then a stubborn rebuilding stand developed between Hamza Virk [36] & Baljinder Verma [21], before both batsman were removed by Derek Stearn 7 - 1 - 48 - 4. Runs came freely with Hamza Zafar [48], along with both Musa Saeed & Mohammad Khan making [24], with the latter being another victim of Derek's exceptional spell of bowling, but so did the fall of wickets which fell at important times for us, with our visitors setting a credible score of 220 for 9 from their allotted 35 overs. Our visitors innings coming to an end @ 3.45pm.
In total the home side used 8 bowlers which turned out to be the norm for the whole season, and the other wicket takers were as follows:-
Akbar Ali 6 - 0 - 43 - 1, Poppin 5 - 1 - 23 - 1 & Freddie 2 - 0 - 15 - 1 who came on for a cameo performance at the end of our visitors innings.

A 25 minute tea was taken [supplied by ourselves] before our innings commenced @ 4.10pm with our openers Freddie Lucas [0] & Luke Grant [7]. As you will note neither of our openers excelled in the fine conditions as both fell very cheaply. The following three batsman Bhavik Trivedi [12], Akbar Ali [26] & Paul 'Poppin' Richards [27] in rebuilding our innings all got off to good starts, but none of them were able to carry on their innings to that bigger score. This was left to Matt Daniels [93], who took control of the run chase with a bludgeoning innings, which came to an end just 7 runs from his maiden ton for his new club. It was then left to Miren Trivedi one of our Colts [17 n o] & Steve 'Chappers' Chapman [9 n o] to see us home, with our score finishing on 221 for 6 from 32.4 overs @ 6.45pm.
Our visitors wicket taking bowling figures were as follows:- Hamza Zafar 7 - 0 - 30 - 2, Apil Basnet 3 - 0 - 13 - 1, Hamza Virk 7 - 1 - 55 - 1, Subhan Saeed 5 - 0 - 35 -1 & Mustafa Saeed 1 - 0 - 7 - 1.

All in all a good resounding win enjoyed by both sides, although the incessive appealing by our opponents can be at sometimes quite irritating not only when umpiring [ask Hodgie], but when on the side lines!
